Identification of Vehicles for Improving Operational Safety and Eliminating the Consequences of Traffic Accidents

Abstract

The new concept of automotive transport development involves the advancement of power systems with a low carbon footprint, which comprise innovative components and assemblies such as electrochemical hydrogen generators, lithium-ion rechargeable energy storage and accumulation systems, various electrical components with voltages exceeding 400 V, and hydrogen storage systems operating at pressures from 350 atmospheres. Although such vehicles possess enhanced safety levels, they require specific approaches in various situations. With the proliferation of alternative energy vehicles, the necessity for their marking has emerged for various purposes, all of which are directly or indirectly related to improving safety during operation, maintenance, and repair, as well as during traffic accident response operations. Various methods of external identification and marking of vehicles exist worldwide, which have been successfully implemented and applied. This article presents an analysis of marking systems and their application purposes, followed by conclusions containing recommendations for implementation on alternative energy vehicles. The regulatory framework that provides the basis and methodology for such application is also examined. Portions of the marking may contain both information about design features and references to emergency response instructions for specific vehicle models.
