The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Tools on the Organisational Structure and Competencies of Middle Managers

Abstract

The paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the transformational impact of artificial intelligence (AI) tool implementation on the organizational structure and key competencies of middle managers. Based on an analysis of Russian and international literature and practical AI implementation case studies, the study identifies a fundamental shift in the manager’s role: from operational control towards the functions of strategist, coach and hybrid leader ensuring collaboration between algorithmic systems and the team. The paper systematises the key AI technologies that define digitalization trends in management, and proposes principles for adapting organizational structures for the effective integration of algorithms. The main conclusion is that the successful implementation of AI does not lead to a reduction in management positions but requires the targeted development of new competencies, such as digital and AI literacy, strategic thinking, emotional intelligence and ethical leadership. The research findings form the basis of a roadmap for companies to revise KPI systems and develop training programs, which is of significant interest to professionals in management, HR and digital transformation
